DR. ANDREW BLACKWOOD - "I Feel Like..." | Mental Health Moment
Mental Health Moments • 1m 36s
The words we use our powerful. In over 17 years of helping people heal, one of my least favorite phrases in the world is “I feel like…”. I feel like nothing ever works out for me, is an example of how to ensure you feel anxious.
The phrase is so deceptive, because it uses the word feel then goes on to define a thought…. Thoughts and feelings are not the same.
I feel like there’s no point? I’ve heard this phrase from people who feel stuck, who feel depressed, who feel hopeless. But if you think about it this way, when we tell ourselves there’s no point, why bother trying, it’s never going to work, that’s exactly how we will feel.
We are encouraged to bring every thought in captivity that seeks to exalt itself about the knowledge of God… but it’s hard to do that when we are stuck in the feelings these thoughts have created.
I encourage you to write out your thoughts, see how they influence your emotions and then it’ll be clear that your thoughts are not facts, and they are the very things that are contributing to how you feel.
