National Indigenous Peoples Day
On Monday, June 21 st , Crossroads will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with a special 100 Huntley Street program filmed on Treaty 6 Territory in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan! Join Hosts, Crystal Lavallee and Tarrant Cross Child, as they share briefly about the traditional territories of the Assiniboine, Cree, Ojibwa, Blackfoot and the Metis! Guests include mental health therapist, Sharon Martell, as well as Manitoba musician, Roxy Flett-Ross. You will love following the traditional paths of Metis Elder, Dale Smith, watching how wild rice is harvested and why traditional fishing can be a headache! The triumphant story of Nunavut born Thomas Kuksuk, and how he found healing at a ranch farm in Southern Saskatchewan, will inspire you to never give up! This program will honour the significant history of Indigenous people and empower multiple voices to guide Canadians towards reconciliation. In 2016, Crossroads established two new positions to ensure the Indigenous community has a voice and representation in Canada’s longest running daily television show, 100 Huntley Street in segments called First Peoples Voices. “As a proud Metis from Red River Settlement, it is an honour to walk with Crossroads – educating and bringing my peoples stories to the national forefront for the purpose of healing” – Crystal Lavallee, First Peoples Voices Producer for 100 Huntley Street Indigenous Producer, Crystal Lavallee has spent 5 years working hard to ensure First Peoples Voices ( https://crossroads.ca/fpv/ ) is part of Crossroads’ response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations that support Indigenous voices on culture, spirituality and languages. Outreach Ambassador, Bev Hadland works to build bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
