Shavina was raised in the church and growing up she and her family never missed a Sunday service. However, during this same time Shavina was surrounded by a lot of ungodly influence and she had a strong desire to fit in with her friends which led her to lead a double life. Shavina recalls that from Monday to Saturday she was just like her friends, and then on Sundays she was a clean-cut and wholesome young lady. It wasn’t too long before things started to surface in her life and heavy depression and anxiety began to settle in. During this time, self-harm became quite frequent in Shavina’s life and one day Shavina was sitting on the edge of her bed contemplating taking her own life with prescription drugs. Shavina remembers that in her heart she heard the Holy Sprit speak very clearly for the first time. He said, “go get your dad to pray for you.” The voice she heard was so different from the voices of torment speaking in her head. Shavina joins us to talk about her journey, the hope she found and how she is now living out her life of faith encouraging others whenever she can.
Rebecca came out of a lifestyle of abuse. After finding hope in Christ, she was compelled to start a community kitchen to help her community. Diabetes mixed with expensive healthy food costs, makes it challenging for longevity of members. Today the kitchen has brought the community together. They are able to grow their own vegetables and spices. The RCMP has noted crime was down 20%, and elders found a reason to leave their homes to participate in activities. It is also teaching the next generation how to prepare traditional meat.
