Alexandra Kuykendall
In a time of increased disconnection and polarization, we are reminded that Jesus still calls his followers to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” The details of what that looks like in day-to-day life can be tricky. In her new book Loving My Actual Neighbor: 7 Practices to Treasure the People Right in Front of You, Alexandra Kuykendall writes, “In families, churches, and communities, we are missing each other. Often our intentions are good, but we get stuck.” In an attempt to help us all get unstuck, Kuykendall digs into the first chapter of 2 Peter and examines seven important practices: Holding a posture of humility, asking questions to learn, being quiet to listen, standing in the awkward, accepting what is, lightening up and giving freely. Whether it’s the grocery store clerk, a cubicle mate or the woman across the street, Kuykendall offers practical ideas of how to embrace those times of natural interactions where our intentionality can show others we care. She writes, “Let us choose to express to our neighbors to the best of our imperfect, human-constrained abilities how high and wide and deep is the love of Christ.” http://alexandrakuykendall.com
