Derek Ross
Dec 2023 Derek B.M. Ross, LL.B. (Western), LL.M. (Toronto), is the Executive Director & General Counsel for Christian Legal Fellowship, a national association of Canadian legal professionals. His litigation practice focuses on human rights and fundamental freedoms, and he has acted for public interest interveners in a number of cases involving the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also appeared before legislative and Parliamentary committees to present on constitutional and legal issues. Derek previously served as Director of Legal Affairs for the Canadian Centre for Christian Charities, Canada's largest association of religious organizations, and prior to that, Derek practiced civil litigation. Derek has written a number of articles on constitutional and human rights law. He has edited/co-edited four editions of The Supreme Court Law Review, which were also published as correlated books: Assisted Death: Legal Social, and Ethical Issues After Carter (2018), Canadian Pluralism and the Charter: Moral Diversity in a Free and Democratic Society (2019) The Forgotten Fundamental Freedoms of the Charter (2020) and Forgotten Foundations of the Canadian Constitution (2022). His writing has also appeared in The Globe and Mail, The National Post, The Montreal Gazette, The Chronicle Herald, Policy Options, The Lawyer's Weekly, Canadian Lawyer, The Hub, and The Public Discourse. Derek is a Centre Associate with the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Constitutional Law and Legal Studies, and a former Vice-Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Constitutional, Civil Liberties and Human Rights Section. Derek spent his formative years growing up in Australia and considers himself a Quasi-Aussie. Julia Beazley
Julia Beazley has been with the EFC since 1999, working mainly on issues of domestic and global poverty, homelessness, prostitution, pornography and human trafficking. She moved from her previous position as policy analyst to director of public policy in January 2016. Tennille Paulsen
Dr. Tennille Paulsen is a dedicated healthcare professional with a diverse background and a passion for serving others. Dr. Paulsen embarked on her journey in the field of medicine with a strong academic foundation. She excelled academically, graduating at the top of her class at the University of Western Ontario, and pursued her medical degree at the University of Toronto. Currently, Tennille resides with her husband, Graham, and the youngest of their three children in the Halton region, ON, Canada, where she serves as an Emergency Physician, as well as in Correctional Services at a local facility. One of Dr. Paulsen’s core values is her commitment to life “on mission”; and she views her medical degree as a tool, allowing her to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus. Her journey in medicine has taken her from the far reaches of the north to extend her expertise in remote Indigenous communities, to delivering critical care in the fast-paced environment of both local and northern emergency departments, and providing medical care for inmates in the depths of a correctional facility. In every context, Dr. Paulsen is deeply dedicated to using her expertise to make a positive impact on the lives of those she encounters in her role as a healthcare professional.
