National Indigenous Peoples Day
Crossroads Celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day with 100 Huntley Street, Featuring Powerful Stories of Indigenous Entrepreneurs On Tuesday, June 21st, Crossroads will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with a special 100 Huntley Street program filmed on location at Mādahòkì Farm! The farm sits on about 65 hectares of traditional Algonquin land in what is known as the city of Ottawa’s Greenbelt area in the west end. Join Hosts, Crystal Lavallee and Steven Carlton, as they engage us in celebrating the many accomplishments of Indigenous entrepreneurs, nationally! Guests include, Founder & CEO of Cheekbone Beauty, Jenn Harper, as well as Indigenous Experiences CEO, Trina Mather-Simard. Mohawk Warrior, Barry Maracle will bring his knowledge of the first covenant that was made in North America between his people and the first settlers. This special program is a fun and engaging way to learn more about Indigenous people, places and history! In 2016, Crossroads established two new positions to ensure the Indigenous community has a voice and representation in Canada’s longest running daily television show, 100 Huntley Street in segments called First Peoples Voices. “The discovery of unmarked graves at former Indian residential school sites in Canada, increased the appetite of Canadians to learn more about their Indigenous neighbours. These special programs not only allow our communities to rise and shine, it provides a day of learning for the goal of healing!” – Crystal Lavallee, First Peoples Voices Producer for 100 Huntley Street Indigenous Host & Producer, Crystal Lavallee has roots in the Red River Settlement. For the past 12 years she has been an advocate for her people in education and media. Since 2017 she has helped Crossroads’ respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations that support Indigenous voices on culture, spirituality and languages. Outreach Ambassador, Bev Hadland, works diligently to build bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Crossroads continues to foster relationships with communities across the country, mobilizing spiritual resources and aid.
