The Baby Depot has opened up a new boutique store in downtown Hamilton. Maggie John refers to it as “project dignity”. The store (by appointment only) is now available to the many families they assist with baby clothing and items. Instead of receiving a clothing hamper, they will be able to now come and pick out exactly what they need. The Baby Depot tag line is - connecting neighbors one need at a time. http://thebabydepot.org
Next Door Social Space
Next Door first opened its doors in 2012 as an outgrowth of their work with Compassion Society and Motel Ministry. Initially located alongside Compassion Society, in 2015 Next Door relocated to its current site where they are excited to be a ‘next door’ neighbour to the Warwick Surrey community. Since moving into Warwick Surrey, they not only operate out of our storefront, but occupy community spaces offering, among other things, a ball hockey league at the local pad and a gardening at the local community garden, an ESL program, a bicycle shop, and a Women’s coffee hour. Since Covid-19, the programs were cancelled (temporarily). Therefore, Next Door Social Space Site Manager, Angie Crichton, and her team of volunteers began cooking healthy and delicious take-away meals multiple times per week that are distributed at a central location (Wellington Square Church) for the vulnerable families and individuals signed up to the meal box program. Next Door has successfully collaborated with other churches of various denominations (Wellington Square, Compass Point, Glad Tidings, St. Christopher), in sharing food and preparing meals since the pandemic hit. The result is almost 1000 vulnerable people from the community are fed weekly with take away meals and other healthy grocery items. Volunteers with Next Door share about their motivation for helping. http://nextdoorsocialspace.com

Roger Boyd
From time to time during this Christmas season, we’ve been featuring stories of people who are making a difference in their community. Today we meet a former truck driver who made the decision to start helping those less fortunate by giving them food, clothing and the good news. Today we share Roger story. Roger Boyd started Men’s Street Ministry 4 years ago by handing out sandwiches, soup, and men’s clothes to the needy in downtown Hamilton. Donations started pouring in, along with volunteer help, and now Roger has a church service for the homeless and those living in nearby gov’t assisted housing every Sunday. After the service clothes, and blankets are given out along with a hot meal. In Roger’s words this is who attends his church: “I’ve got all walks of life here you could say here… people that struggle with drug addiction, alcoholism, and mental health issues. People that come out because they just want to hear the gospel.” “My message isn't complicated; it's about the truth, it's about love, caring and God's grace.” – Chaplain Roger Boyd. http://menstreetministry.ca
