God began writing my story of restoration before I was born, but in January of this year He asked me to start sharing about the story He has been revealing more recently. I started my Instagram account, @arestorationstory to share about the huge faith journey we had been on while praying and believing for our dream house, an abandoned gem on the lake. God was giving me the blueprints for something He was building in me as He was growing my faith. We watched in awe as He orchestrated everything with the purchase of our home, knowing there would be great purpose here! We have been working on restoring this home to its original beauty. I thought all that God wanted me to restore was this house, but realized soon that His restoration was more personal. As C.S. Lewis said, “Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house.” My house felt like it crumbled on October 5th, the day I found out I have breast cancer. I sat there and thought “This can’t be part of your plan, God.” I wondered why He prepared me to serve and open our home and love on others when I would have to focus so much time and energy on healing. I cried out to Him in a different way that week. Instead of the bold prayers and declarations of faith I had before, it became a soft whisper of hope. I have felt held and carried throughout the past few months and experienced the presence of God in a new way. I am holding onto His promises. He has spoken restoration over my life. It will look different than the “house” I was planning on. He will need to do some major work, but in the end it will be so much better than I could have ever imagined. His plans are always better. I am crazy in love with a good God no matter what and even when I have hard days and question, I am staying close to the familiar hem of His robe and believing in faith that I am being healed and restored. As we approach Christmas I am feeling more and more like Mary who felt so inadequate, afraid and unprepared for the journey, but BELIEVED in God’s bigger plan. She BELIEVED that out of the mess comes miracles. She trusted him and her soul glorified him. I know and remember as God is birthing something in me, that Jesus was born in a barn. He came into the mess and pain of our world as a light in the darkness, infusing us with hope, love, joy, and peace. It was everything our broken world needed, and still is today. I believe that the Mighty One has done great things for me and I am filled with JOY! Let this living house bring Him glory! “Blessed is she who believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished” Luke 1:45 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
