Please Note: Today's Program originally aired on March 5, 2020 prior to Physical Distancing Mandates Dori came to Canada on her own from Venezuela when she was just 16 years old with the intention to study English. Upon arriving in Canada, Dori lived with a “homestay family” for a brief time. She soon rented her own apartment and, in an effort to make friends, she got involved in the nightclub scene and even became a nightclub promoter, which was illegal given her age. Dori took up drinking and smoking and it soon began to cause problems for her. Shortly after her arrival in Canada, she was standing at a bus stop one day when a lady walked up to her and invited her to come to an Alpha program at her church. Dori brushed her off and told her that she did not need to do this and wasn’t interested. She remembers thinking this is probably some sort of cult. The lady’s name was Leticia. Three years after her arrival to Canada, the rest her family, Mom, Dad and brother had to flee Venezuela. Someone invited her Dad to Alpha and he decided to attend. It was during the Alpha weekend that Dori’s Dad received Jesus in his heart. After his encounter at Alpha, he invited his daughter to go with him. Dori resisted several times, but her Dad persisted and Dori decided to go. Dori was in the room during the worship time and wanted to know what it would feel like to raise her hands in worship, so she did and during that moment God told her He had plans for her and that He would help her and that she needed to give up the drinking and smoking. Following this, Dori stopped drinking and smoking and was water baptized. One night, during a prayer gathering at her church, a lady approached Dori, visibly weeping, and she asked her “are you Dori?” The lady, Leticia, went on to tell her that she was the one who invited her to Alpha at the bus stop and that after Dori turned her down, she made a promise to God to keep praying for her. This went on for over 5 years. There were times along the way when Leticia struggled with this promise as she felt God was not hearing her prayer, but God continued to encourage her to keep praying and not give up. Leticia got to see the answer to her many years of praying that night at the church. Today, Dori’s life is a continued testimony to the how Jesus can transform and use every person.
