Rachael started drinking alcohol (off and on) when she was 12 years old. When she drank, it was often binge drinking to excess. She was on the road to possible alcoholism. When she was 19, she was involved in the party scene and became pregnant. She was young, at a local university, had a scholarship, and the pregnancy was not planned. Her boyfriend at the time was scared and did not want her to keep the baby. During that period of her life a woman from church reached out to her, along with others, and let her know she would have support. Rachael decided to keep her baby, but shortly after, she went back to partying again. 7 months later she became pregnant again. It was at that time a caring leader in the church spoke to her and lovingly challenged if this was the life she wanted. Upon reflection and realization, with feeling empty; and despite faltering many times, Rachael was determined to walk with Christ. She quit drinking, finished her degree, and persevered. Rachael is now married with seven children. She has had many challenging moments with energetic children, combined with a child with ADHD and a child with ASD (spectrum). She also had her own battles with perinatal and post-partum severe depression. Jesus is and has been her hope and joy through all the tough times.
